Sri Lanka (SL) will clash against Zimbabwe (ZIM) in the first T20I of the three-match series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on January 14, Sunday. Both these sides met against each other on three occasions in T20Is with Sri Lanka bagging victories in all three games.
Sri Lanka will be with their new captain Wanindu Hasaranga in the T20I series. The star spinner, who made a grand comeback in the last ODI vs Zimbabwe, claimed a seven-wicket haul to steamroll the opposition. There will be a lot of expectations on the spinner in the three-match series.
All-rounder Angelo Mathews and spinner Akila Dananjaya are making their return to the shortest format of the game for the first time since 2021. Lankans are likely to miss Pathum Nissanka with suspected dengue. It would be interesting to see how they form their XI with a lot of talent part of the squad.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will led by their in-form all-rounder Sikandar Raza. Brian Bennett, Carl Mumba, and Ainsley Ndlovu will be a part of the T20I series, while Tapiwa Mufudza, Faraz Akram, and Takudzwanashe Kaitano miss out.
Zimbabwe won three games in their last five T20Is. However, they are coming into this series on the back of consecutive defeats over Ireland in December 2023. With Craig Ervine, Ryan Burl, and Raza part of the batting order, it would be an exciting series to watch out for.
