Sydney Sixers (SS-W) will face Adelaide Strikers (AS-W) in the fifth match of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 on Tuesday, October 29, at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney. It will be the second game of the season for both teams. The Strikers have won four out of the last five games against the Sixers. The Sixers have won 12 out of 20 games against the Strikers in the WBBL.
The Sixers faced Melbourne Renegades Women in their first game of the season and elected to bowl after winning the toss. The Renegades scored 178 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Sophie Ecclestone, Ellyse Perry, and Courtney Sippel took two wickets each for the Sixers. Perry scored 81 runs off 38 deliveries and single-handedly changed the course of the match. The Sixers reached the target of 179 runs in 19 overs with three wickets in hand. Perry won the Player of the Match award for her all-round performance.
The Strikers were up against Brisbane Heat Women in the season opener. The Heat won the toss here and elected to bowl. The Strikers finished with 133 runs for the loss of five wickets on the board. Skipper Tahlia McGrath remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 41 deliveries and was the highest scorer. The Heat chased down the target of 134 runs in 18 overs and won the match by four wickets. Megan Schutt was the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers and took two wickets for 27 runs in four overs.
