Surrey will lock horns with Hampshire in the 82nd match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Kennington Oval in London on June 18. Surrey have won seven of their nine matches and are at the top of the table in the South Group. On the other hand, Hampshire have won five of their nine matches and are fourth in the rankings of the South Group.
Surrey had squared off against Somerset in their last match, where Somerset won the toss and elected to field. Surrey started brilliantly, with their batters looking in great touch. Even though they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, the scoring rate did not come down. Will Jacks was the highest run scorer, and a good finish towards the end by Chris Jordan meant Surrey posted 195 runs on the board. Somerset followed the same ideology and kept scoring runs while losing wickets regularly too. However, there came a time when they started losing wickets rather more frequently than scoring runs, which also brought their run rate down. By the end, they could only make 167 runs, and Surrey won the match by 28 runs.
Hampshire had played against Sussex in their last encounter, where Hampshire won the toss and elected to field. Sussex started explosively but lost two wickets quickly as well. A brilliant third-wicket partnership of 98 runs put them in the driving seat and helped them set a target of 184 runs for Hampshire to chase. Hampshire were also slow in their chase and lost four wickets within the powerplay. The middle order tried the restoration work, but it proved to be a little too much as they were not left with wickets in their hands either. Sussex won the match by six runs in the end.
