My father did not hesitate to give me out says former Kenya captain Hitesh Modi

Former Kenya team captain Hitesh Modi who now resides in England is currently in India to watch a few matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. The former Kenya cricketer along with his brother in law Sandip Saujani are special guests invited by the Rajasthan Royals franchise to witness the IPL games in Jaipur and Mumbai. Modi also came across some of his old memories during his playing days and recited a few incidents from his international career during the recent conversation.

My father shouldn’t have umpired in that game: Modi

During an ODI match against Bangladesh in 2006, Hitesh has adjudged LBW by his own father Subhash Modi, who was the official umpire in the game appointed by the ICC. The incident also then became a world record as it is the only instance to date when a father declared his son out. Remembering the past, Modi mentioned that his father had no hesitation in taking his call on his dismissal in that match in 2006.

“I was out and my dad has no hesitation in raising his finger, but I thought my father should not have umpired the match though he was appointed by ICC. It became a unique sort of world record that father adjudged his son out LBW. It had never happened before in the history of ODIs where both and son featured as an umpire and a player. I am proud to say my father is still active in umpiring in Kenya for the past 38 years and loves the noble game of cricket,” said Hitesh as quoted by the Kashmir Times.

IPL is the most well-organized cricket tournament in the world

The former cricketer also talked about his first experience of watching live IPL matches in the country and about the hospitality which he is enjoying offered by the Royals franchise. He mentioned that the IPL is the most well-organized and perhaps the finest cricketing tournament in the world.

“I and my brother in Law (Sandip Saujani) from the UK are here in India especially for the IPL Matches in Jaipur and Mumbai. We are the Guests of The Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. We have been enjoying the exciting matches and the wonderful hospitality of the hosts,” he further added.

The left-handed batsman has played 63 ODIs for Kenya in which he has scored 1109 runs and his last national outing came in 2006. He reckoned that it is truly a great experience to witness the IPL matches in the stadiums accompanied by the VIP treatment.

“I must say that the IPL is superbly well-organized and indeed is the finest and the best cricket tournament in the world and is being watched by millions of people on TV and also in packed grounds. What a great feeling to watch the IPL matches from the VIP stand within the stadium. Finally, it is great to be here in India again for the IPL matches,” concluded the former Kenya skipper.
