The left-handed batsman Fawad Alam is back in the reckoning for Pakistan it seems as he was at the National Cricket Academy recently. He batted in the nets under the supervision of the head coach Mickey Arthur. Pakistan lost the recent two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in their adopted home the United Arab Emirates (UAE). There is a possibility that the coach and the selectors are looking at him as the middle order batsman in the Test side which failed in their first series after the retirements of Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq.
Fawad Alam last played for Pakistan in an ODI against Bangladesh back in 2015 and hasn’t been the part of the Test squad since 2009. He has performed well consistently in the domestic arena and the fans always criticised the selectors for leaving him out of the side. However, Arthur also looked happy with his technique and the 32-year-old might make a sensational comeback.
It was good to have Fawad at the NCA
Fawad Alam went through few net sessions at the NCA and Arthur had a close look at his technique. “It was good to have Fawad at NCA. We got to know about his fitness for the longer format,” Arthur said as quoted by Dawn. He also added that the left-hander needs to keep scoring runs to stay in the reckoning for a spot in the Test side which is struggling a little bit currently.
“We put him through some good net sessions, it was an opportunity for us to see him play and see his skills and know what he is about,” he said. “We had a look at his techniques to see how many pulls and how many types of strokes he has,” the head coach added. Fawad is one of the fittest cricketers going around in Pakistan currently and now that Arthur has supervised him, his selection could not be ruled out for the next assignment of the team.
