Fawad Alam Has A New Mantra For Comeback

Fawad Alam is one of those highly talented Pakistani batsmen. But, he has failed to make it big at the international level. The 32-year old Fawad is the son of Pakistan’s famous first-class cricketer, Tariq Alam. Despite being a middle-order batsman, Fawad has played as an opener and at the No.3 position in all the 3 test matches that he has played. He last played in the red ball format way back in 2009 and has played his last ODI in 2015.

The left-hander had a decent outing as a batsman debuting at a very young age of 21. At that time, Fawad acted as a batting all-rounder that the Pakistan team lacked. He soon established himself as one of the mainstays in the Pakistan middle order in the ODI format. But a few harsh decisions taken by the PCB to chastise established players, Alam was the most affected.

Comeback on the cards

Fawad has made a statement on his comeback to the ODI team in 2014. He has also delivered by scoring heavy runs in the Asia Cup, under high pressure. Under-performing players have often been backed by the PCB showing clear ‘Favouritism’. Alam has been performing tremendously at the domestic level. The selectors have over-looked Fawad despite him being one of the leading run scorers in the domestic circuit.

In a recent interview, Fawad said that he had been performing well in both One-Day and Tests matches. He seems to be satisfied with performances in domestic cricket. He said that he wants to make the maximum use of whatever opportunities he gets. The 32-year-old revealed that he has been working hard to get better with his bowling. Further, he thinks staying fit will help score big runs. This could probably help him have an edge over the other players.

Let us hope that the dynamic left-hander is rewarded for his performances and gets a national call-up soon. Fawad deserves a lot more than what he gets. Pakistan should have him in their scheme of things for World Cup 2019.
