Fawad Alam in line to make international comeback for Pakistan
While Alam is in line to stage a comeback to the national side, the dark clouds continue to hover over the selection of two other veteran cricketers - Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif.
Out-of-favor left handed Pakistani batsman, Fawad Alam, is likely to make a comeback to international cricket soon. Alam has been a perennial performer in the domestic circuit in the last couple of years. However, he has received very little attention from the national selectors. There have been talks about his comeback but the moment has not quite arrived yet for him.
In the meantime, several controversies have grappled the issue as well. From the national selectors being slammed for ignoring him to the national coach Mickey Arthur making controversial remarks on him, Fawad Alam has seen it all. Now, as per the recent reports in brecorder.com, the national selectors are considering his name for the upcoming Test assignments of the national team.
Commenting on the 32-year old batsman’s recent performance, Fawad Alam had hit a magnificent ton in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy against the UBL side. He had hit an unbeaten 123 that was studded with 13 boundaries.
Pakistan’s Test assignments
Talking about Pakistan’s international assignments, the men in green are scheduled to play Ireland in a one off Test in May next year. This will be Ireland’s first ever Test match after they were recently awarded the Test status. Following the Ireland tour, the national side will head to England for a Test series as well.
While Alam is in line to stage a comeback to the national side, the dark clouds continue to hover over the selection of two other veteran cricketers – Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif. Both Asif and Butt were found guilty of spot fixing in the 2010 spot fixing scandal in England.
They served their respective bans following the infamous scandal and returned to the domestic circuit as well. While Butt has been playing well, Asif also has rattled the oppositions with his bowling. But the selectors seem to be in no mood to consider them at the moment.
