Numerous residents of Bangladesh are suffering due to the excessive amount of rain in the country this year. Australian cricket team’s head coach Darren Lehmann, who is currently in Bangladesh, said that his thoughts are with the affected families. The Aussies are currently in the capital city of the cricket crazy nation in Mirpur, where they will play their first Test match from August 27.
After a prolonged session of drama and speculations, they have finally arrived in Bangladesh, two years later than they were expected. Steve Smith & Co. will play two Test matches against the home side, one at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka and the other in Chittagong. Lehmann, who has landed in Bangladesh after organising a preparatory conditioning camp, lauded the efforts of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to make the venues eligible of hosting such a crucial series, despite the incessant rain.
“The BCB has been fantastic trying to get us the game. The amount of rain hasn’t helped. We looked at various facilities around Dhaka. We feel for the people of Bangladesh with the amount of rain they have had. There are a lot of people in this country struggling because of the rain so the thoughts are with them,” said Lehmann.
Rain, Rain, Go Away;
Lehmann’s current wishes match with that of numerous Bangladeshi cricket enthusiasts. Just like the popular nursery rhyme, the Australian coach also wants the rain to go away so that Bangladesh and Australia can play. When asked about the wicket his side will play on at Mirpur in the first game, he responded saying, “I haven’t seen the wicket in Mirpur. It will be a good wicket here traditionally. The outfield will be fine and hopefully, the rain stays away.”
He further stated that they are looking forward to a cracking game of cricket between the two sides. “They are really working hard to get it up. That’s all we can ask. We hope that it is dry and we get a great Test match,” he signed off.
