Feels good to be compared with Yuvraj Singh: Shivam Dube
He also named the cricketer he idolises.
Albeit Mumbai didn’t have the best of seasons, the 2018-19 edition of the Ranji Trophy turned out to be equivalent to a fairytale for Shivam Dube. The youngster was their second highest run-scorer with 632 runs from eight matches at an average of 52.66. The 25-year-old smacked 56 fours and cleared the ropes 25 times. Moreover, he was exceptional with the leather in hand.
Dube picked up 23 wickets with best figures of 7/53 against Karnataka in Belgavi. He is currently playing in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. He came to the limelight after hitting five sixes off leg-spinner Pravin Tambe and ever since hasn’t looked back. Dube was recently roped in at a hefty amount of INR 5 crore by the Virat Kohli-captained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
I want to be a good player like Yuvraj Singh
Such has been his domination in his short career that he has been compared to the legendary Yuvraj Singh, who has been one of the best all-round cricketers India have ever produced. Yuvraj also played the ongoing T20 tournament. Quite expectantly, the 25-year-old Dube is ecstatic after the comparisons. Moreover, he wished to ingrain some of his qualities in his career.
“It feels really good when you are compared with a legend like Yuvraj Singh. I will be happy if I can have some percentage of his qualities in my career. I want to be a good player like him,” Dube was quoted as saying in an interview with The Times of India (TOI).
Dube also named his idol and it’s none other than the evergreen Jacques Kallis, the former South African cricketer. Shivam also hailed him as the best all-rounder he has seen ever. “I idolise Jacques Kallis. He is one of the best allrounders the world has ever produced. He is my inspiration. I always wanted to be like him. He is the best allrounder I have ever seen in cricket,” he added.
