After an underwhelming run in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), hosted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) started their campaign in IPL 2021 on a blistering note as they registered a victory over Rajasthan Royals by four runs.

However, the franchise quickly lost the winning momentum and ended up on the wrong side in the next three matches against Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). After three successive defeats, the team finally seems to return to the winning ways as they outplayed the defending champions Mumbai Indians by nine wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta was happy with the team’s victory against MI as she took to her official Twitter handle to applaud the players. The Bollywood diva shares a good camaraderie with the players and the team. Zinta has been a constant supporter of Punjab Kings and can be seen supporting the team through the stands in almost all the games.

The actress is currently undergoing a mandatory seven-day quarantine period before she will be allowed to join the team in the bio bubble. Preity lauded the players for their team effort and reckoned that it was delightful to see the franchise deliver a dominating performance. She also added that finally there is something to celebrate while she is locked in her hotel room.

“Finally something to celebrate in my quarantine as it’s pretty tough to stay locked up in a room without a window for a week. Tonight was all about teamwork & it was awesome to see such a strong & dominant performance from the boys Fisted hand #PBKSvsMI #ting  @PunjabKingsIPL  @klrahul11″

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle take PBKS home

Batting first, Mumbai could post only 131 runs on the board in their 20 overs while losing six wickets. The MI skipper Rohit Sharma looked in fine touch as he scored 63 runs off 52 deliveries, however, the rest of the players failed to contribute to the scoreboard.

Chasing 132 wasn’t a difficult task for Punjab as skipper KL Rahul led from the front as he played a sublime knock of 60* runs. He was aptly supported by Gayle who scored 43* runs. The two batters together took PBKS to their second win in IPL 2021 by nine wickets.
