Yes, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies in Rajkot as Indian batsmen came out bruised and scathed from the game, there is a good news for the Indian supporters which should boost the morale of the side going into the Vizag Test.
The in-form batsman from Karnataka, KL Rahul, who was out from the game for 6 weeks due to a hamstring injury, is back for the 2nd Test at Vizag starting on 17th of November.
The Karnataka opening batsman has been the most impressive young batsman for India, scoring consistent runs in all three formats of the game after breakthrough IPL season of 2016. Earlier, after a run fest in Zimbabwe, the stylish right-hander properly announced his arrival on the International scene with a brilliant series in the Caribbean before a six-week injury lay-off somewhat halted his high-flying career.
As was the message from the head coach Anil Kumble, Rahul had to first prove his fitness by playing in a Ranji Trophy game before being considered for the starting eleven of Indian Test squad. After a 85-ball 76 runs in the first innings and 131-ball 106 runs in the second innings against Rajasthan in the round-6 of Ranji Trophy 2016/17, KL Rahul is effectively back in the fold to take back his place in the starting eleven of the 2nd Test.
While India was expected to steamroll or at the very least, dominate England in the first Test at Rajkot, it was actually the visitors who came out of the game unscathed and more impressive than the home side. Gautam Gambhir’s failure with the bat in both the innings means that the left-hander could face the axe as KL Rahul stakes his claim alongside Murali Vijay.
