Mitchell Starc was included in the Australian squad for the tri-series earlier this month and some more good news has flown in his way as Australian batsman Joe Burns recently quoted Starc as a ‘scary’ prospect.

Starc was seen back in action in the net sessions and Burns, who faced him, said that the left-armer looked absolutely fit and bowled with swing and pace. “He’s bowling very fast, very accurately and swinging it,” Burns told cricket.com.au in a recent interview.

He also said that Starc looked close to his best. “I think he’s bowling close to his best,”

Recalling how Mitchell Starc troubled the batters in the nets in his early days, Burns was quick to admit that the pacer was a scary prospect indeed. He further added that the scary element hasn’t ended yet. “There were some very scary days facing him, but it’s just great to see him back on the park and bowling express speeds,”

Burns was all praises for Starc and said his ability to trouble the top order makes him a very effective bowler. He also added that in the tough conditions, like those in the subcontinent, Starc bowls equally well as he does on the hard decks back in Australia. “He’s got that ability with the new ball to almost skid it off the lower wickets as well,”

“So he’s still as challenging in those (sub-continental) conditions as he is on the Australian wickets I reckon,” conceded the Test opener.

Starc had endured a stress ankle fracture last year during the inaugural day-night Test against New Zealand and was subsequently ruled out of action for 5 months. He missed the World T20 in India and also did not turn up for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.
