Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has made it clear that if someone wishes to be a part of the Indian team, then they have to prove their fitness. He has stressed on the importance of fitness when it comes to retaining one’s place in the Indian lineup consistently. The remarks are quite direct in making the terms for the eligibility of the national side clear to many.
In the recent times, the importance of fitness has grown manifold. Especially with the amount of cricket that is being played at the moment, it has become very important for the players to have supreme fitness. Unless they are supremely fit, they stand no chance to meet the requirements of the hectic national schedules in the modern day cricket.
“Like I said the last time, fitness is the benchmark if you’ve got to be a regular in Team India. You may have a brilliant ability to time the ball or bowl exceptionally, but if you aren’t fit, it’s not going to work,” quoted Ravi Shastri.
Fitness above reputations
Also, the yo-yo test has been in the news in the recent times for the same reason too. Some of the senior members of the Indian team like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have been constantly ignored from the national setup. They have missed the bus to the national side in the recent times owing to the fact that they had missed out on clearing the yo-yo tests.
Also, Washington Sundar was a top contender for the Indian team during the Australia series. However, he was ignored since he had failed the yo-yo tests. Now, he recently cleared the yo-yo test and is now a part of the Indian team for the Sri Lanka series. Yuvraj Singh also cleared the test and would be hoping to make a comeback.
