For the first couple of seasons, it was the overseas batsmen who dominated the IPL. In the first season, it was Shaun Marsh who took the tournament by storm as he scored 616 runs in 11 games while playing for the Kings XI Punjab. Matthew Hayden won the Orange Cap in the second season as he amassed 572 runs in 12 matches.

But in 2010, the tide turned and none other than the great Sachin Tendulkar broke the Indian hoodoo. He had a phenomenal season where he led the Mumbai Indians (MI) to the final for the first time in three years. He scored 618 runs at an average of 47.53. Moreover, he had a strike-rate of 132.61.

Since then, only two Indians have won the Orange Cap. In 2014, it was Robin Uthappa who had a great run as his 660 runs in the tournament helped KKR lift the title. In 2016, Virat Kohli was batting on another level. He scored a mind-boggling 973 runs and led RCB to the final of that season.
