The Rising Pune Supergiants was the franchise that rose from the ashes of the Chennai Super Kings given that they have the same skipper and the coach. Despite brand new owners and a brand new franchise, there are evident remains of CSK. However, as many have attested time and again, although there is a tinge of the CSK culture within the ranks, RPS is a new team with a novel playing style and a distinct swagger about them. That said, here is how the Supergiants teams is different from the Super Kings.
1. Only 6 players in the squad played for CSK last season:
The Chennai Super Kings were known for their acute dominance in the Indian Premier League over the years. The now dissolved team lifted the IPL title and the Champions League title on two occasions. They had some massive names to boast about in their squad of 25. However, with two new teams emerging from the ashes of the CSK, only six players from the latest Super Kings’ squad have made it into the squad for the Pune franchise. These six players include skipper MS Dhoni; South Africa T20 skipper Faf du Plessis; domestic players Baba Aparajith, Ankush Bains and Ishwar Pandey; and Irfan Pathan. The rest of the 19 players have been either procured through the auction or the draft process when the two teams met recently.
