Following his purple patch Rohit Sharma a big hit among 22 brands
Sharma has signed up for ten new brands thus far.
There is no doubt that Rohit Sharma is at the peak of his powers! It is what you call a purple patch; a time where you can do no wrong and everything you touch turns into gold. In cricketing context, it refers to a time in the career of a batsman when his edges fall short of the fielders and even if it does go straight in their hands, they refuse to catch it. It is also a time when umpires mysteriously do not hear your nicks or turn down an appeal for leg-before-wicket against the batsman.
And, such is the phase that Rohit Sharma, India’s swashbuckling opener and white-ball vice-captain- is going through currently. And, naturally, when you are going such a pristine time in your life, everyone wants to be associated with you. Which is what is currently happening with the Mumbai Indians skipper. ‘
According to a report in Economic Times, the incumbent Test opener is a big hit among the brands this year. Sharma has signed up for ten new brands thus far. What is mindboggling about the aforementioned fact is that Sharma has signed the deals at about 55% higher rates than earlier, according to a sports marketing expert.
“The brand Rohit Sharma has seamlessly evolved over the last few years and has created a niche market for itself. His onfield performance has rapidly advanced and complimented to our off-field strategy, offering a very exciting option for brands,” said Nikhil Bardia, head of sponsorship sales at IMG-Reliance as quoted by Economic Times.
Its been a year to remember for Rohit Sharma
It has been a stupendous year for Rohit Sharma. It all started during the 2019 World Cup where he emerged as the cornerstone of the Indian batting unit. The Mumbai Indians skipper shellacked five hundred- a world record- in a single quadrennial event. But, it was a successful transition as a Test match opener that will be his biggest achievement this year.
Having been given the opportunity to resurrect his fledgeling Test career by opening the batting, Sharma broke all sorts of records when he racked up back-to-back hundreds in his maiden essay at the coveted position against South Africa. Rohit then backed it up with a stupendous double-century to assert that he is here to say in five-day cricket.
Coming back to his lucrative deals, Sharma is now expected to earn Rs 73-75 Crore from the total 22 brands that he endorses.
