There is absolutely no doubt surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s fandom in the football fraternity. The 34-year-old is a colossal figure and he is admired across the globe. His contributions have been enormous for Portuguese football. He was a stalwart for Real Madrid until last year when he decided to ply his trade for Juventus. The veteran has left even Virat Kohli in awe through his class and aura.
Over the time period, there have been discussions surrounding who among Ronaldo and the legendary Lionel Messi is the best in the football field. Kohli, the Indian cricket team’s skipper, was clear cut in saying that for him Cristiano stands out ‘above everyone else’. Kohli himself is a dedicated lot on the cricket field and hence could understand the commitment Ronaldo shows in his game.
He’s also a leader and I love that
“For me, Cristiano is above everyone else. His commitment and work ethic is unmatched. He wants it that bad — you can see it every game,” Kohli was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with FIFA.com. Kohli hailed him as a complete player and said that he has been an inspiration.
“In my opinion, he (Ronaldo) has taken on more challenges and succeeded at all of them. He’s the most complete player. I have seen and his work ethic, as I mentioned, is unmatched. He inspires people. I don’t think many people do that. He’s also a leader and I love that. Absolutely love it. He has amazing belief too,” the Delhi-born cricketer stated.
Kohli also lauded French footballer Kylian Mbappe and said that he’ll take over as the best footballer in the years to come. Kohli reminisced France’s match versus Argentina in the 2018 World Cup where Mbappe scored a couple of goals in the 64th and 68th minute. France went on to win the match by a margin of 4-3.
“Mbappe stands out for me. His sprint in the 2018 World Cup against Argentina is hard to forget. He’s a beast and he will definitely be at the top of the pile for me. (He is) Absolutely a top-class player,” the 30-year-old Virat mentioned.
As far as Virat is concerned, he is set to lead the Indian team in the West Indies for the three-match T20I, three-match ODI, and a two-match Test series.
