West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle has opened up about his absence from the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and said that he was not treated properly for the past two years. Gayle has been a part of the IPL for many years and has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings during his tenure.
He has given some magnificent performances while playing for the above-mentioned teams, and his best came under RCB, the franchise he played the most games for. Gayle has multiple IPL records registered to his name, a few of which include the highest individual score in the history of the tournament (175*), most sixes in an innings (17), fastest century (30 balls), and many more. He featured for Punjab Kings in the last two years but didn’t register his name for the mega auction this year.
“For the last couple of years, the way the IPL went about, I felt like I wasn’t treated properly,” Gayle shared. “So I thought ‘okay, you (Gayle) didn’t get the respect you deserved after you did so much for the sport and IPL.’ So I said ‘okay, that’s it, I’m not going to bother to enter the draft,’ so I left it as it is. There is always going to be life after cricket so I’m just trying to adapt to normality,” he told The Mirror.
Between RCB and Punjab, I would love to get a title with one of those two teams: Gayle
Though he is not a part of the ongoing IPL 2022, he has started preparing for the next season of the IPL as he revealed that, by sharing a picture of himself working out, on his social media handle. The triple centurion confirmed the same yet again and also stated his desire to win the IPL trophy for either RCB or Punjab.
“Next year I’m coming back, they need me! I’ve represented three teams in the IPL, Kolkata, RCB, and Punjab. Between RCB and Punjab, I would love to get a title, with one of those two teams. I had a great stint with RCB where I was more successful within the IPL and Punjab, they’ve been good. I love to explore and I love challenges so let’s see what happens.
Now that the IPL is played between ten teams, it will be interesting to see which team ropes him for the IPL 2023 when he goes under the hammer during the auction.
