AB de Villiers was one of the most dynamic cricketers South Africa have ever produced. He was an indefatigable trooper for the nation in all forms of cricket. The Pretoria-born cricketer scored runs all across the world and carved a reputation for being one of the most explosive batsmen the world has ever seen. Apart from his prowess with the willow, he has been an agile fieldsman as well.

However, the cricket fraternity has been dealt with a body as the Proteas cricketer hung his boots from international cricket. He made the announcement yesterday in his official app and cited tiredness as a reason behind the sudden decision. He had strained in the last couple of years owing to injuries. He made a comeback to Test cricket during the Day-Night Test against Zimbabwe at Port Elizabeth.

The journey for de Villiers

He played the Test series versus India, but couldn’t play a few matches in the ODI series because of a finger injury. He recovered in time and represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Midway, he suffered from viral fever and was ruled out for a couple of matches. Nevertheless, he was RCB’s fulcrum in the lineup.

The 34-year old, single-handedly, helped his team win a few encounters and conjured roars from the crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home venue of the Challengers. Following his retirement, people showered him with best wishes. Brett Lee, the former Australian cricket, hailed him as a gentleman in a message on Twitter. Here is what he  wrote

“Well done on such an incredible career @ABdeVilliers17 You’re a true gentleman of the game and it was such a pleasure to play against you. wishing you all the best in stage two of your life!”
