Former Australian cricketer set to be next batting coach of Bangladesh
The new coach is expected to take over the duties before the Nidahas Trophy.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board are all set to make a new appointment on their roster. The BCB is likely to make an official announcement about their new batting coach soon. Currently, they are without the services of a regular head coach or a batting coach in the camp. Reportedly, former Australian batsman Michael Bevan is likely to take over as the new batting coach of the Bangladeshi team.
Bevan was revered as one of the best finishers during his playing days. Albeit he did not have a very prolific record in the longest format of the game, his numbers in the limited overs were very impressive. As per the recent reports in bdcrictime.com, Michael Bevan has been shortlisted as the next batting coach of the team.
It is worth noting that the Bangaldeshi side is without the services of a regular coach at the moment. After a dismal tour of South Africa, Chandika Hathurusingha had brought an abrupt end to his position as the head coach of the Bangladeshi team. Since then, they have had a team manager in place but the need for a head coach is pretty much evident.
Currently, the national side is engaged in a bilateral series against Sri Lanka. After having lost the ODI tri-series at home, Bangladesh are hosting Sri Lanka for two Test matches. After the conclusion of the Tests, the two sides will compete in the shortest format of the game as well. Reportedly, Michael Bevan will be joining the team before the team leaves for Sri Lanka a month later for the Nidahas Trophy. It will be a tri-series which will involved India as the third team.
Not the first time in Bangladesh for Michael Bevan
Interestingly, this is not the first time that Michael Bevan would be serving in the capacity of a team management official in Bangladesh. Earlier in the year 2012, during the Bangladesh Premier League, Bevan had served as the batting coach of the Chittagong Vikings. Bevan would hope to serve in his new role with utmost sincerity and bring greater laurels for the Bangladeshi team.
