Former Indian domestic cricketer, Gour Ghosh, who had represented the Bengal and the Jharkhand First-Class teams during his career, recently passed away on July 8. Ghosh was a right handed batsman and a wicketkeeper by his trade in the cricket field. He had a First Class career that spanned over a decade during the 1960s. He represented the Bengal side and the Jharkhand side in a cumulative of 17 First Class matches between 1960 and 1971.
After having retired from the game, he continued to serve in the capacity of a mentor to many in the cricket circuit. He was one of the junior team selectors of Bengal in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Gour Ghosh passed away at the age of 77. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Mr. Subir Ganguly expressed his grief and sorrow on behalf of the Bengal cricket fraternity.
He conveyed solace to the family of the former cricketer on behalf of CAB. He also expressed his prayers for the peace of the departed soul.”We convey our solace to the bereaved family and pray to the almighty for eternal peace to his departed soul,” CAB joint-secretary Subir Ganguly quoted in his condolence message.
First Class Cricket career
Talking about his cricket career, Gour Ghosh played 17 matches in his First Class career. During his career, Ghosh batted in 17 innings in the 17 matches that he played in and remained unbeaten on 4 occasions. He aggregated 266 runs at an average of 20.46 with the bat. He had a top score of 60 during his First Class career. He was very capable with the wicket keeping gloves. He managed to pocket 13 catches and effected 16 stumpings in his decade long career.
The loss of the former cricketer will surely be felt. The cricket fraternity will miss the former cricketer. Condolences and support go out to the family of Gour Ghosh.
