Former England cricketer hails Indian cricket for its steady growth

As seen in recent times, the world has witnessed the massive growth in the development and various different training methods in the Indian cricket. The domestic cricketers especially the young guns are receiving some enormous exposures through the Indian Premier League (IPL), India A overseas tours and now the Under 19 tours as well have added to the variety limits for Indian players. But former England cricketer Rob Key has recently viewed his own perspective reflecting the reasons for the steady growth of Indian cricket in the recent years.

A great bunch of talented players are emerging from India in a quest to represent their nation at the greatest of the stages of the game. Rob believes that the entire system created by the Board of Control for Cricket in Indian (BCCI) and the other authorities have played an important role for these developments in Indian cricket. They have effectively utilized every talent so far very maturely and professionally.

System plays a significant role

“Yes, they have a lot of people playing cricket but it is their system that enables them to develop players and make the most of that advantage. A lot of counties have their own identities as well. And you want someone who can push that through,” Key wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

He also mentioned about the role of the coaches both at the domestic and international level, which plays a crucial role in the maintenance of the various age-group of players. The former cricketer feels that the county cricket has their own part to channelize and develop young faces. This same criterion is being followed in Indian domestic circuit in the recent years.

“The best technical coaches should be working at age-group cricket, in charge of the academies and they can then push their philosophy right the way throughout the system. Counties can do more to develop young players and India are the example to follow,”  the former cricketer noted.

Countries should follow this Indian model

Recently, India Under-19 boys enriched the pride of their nation by winning the World Cup in New Zealand, where they played some stunning brand of cricket to win the title under the guidance of experienced coach and former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. Key also praised the former Indian cricketer for sharing his experience with the junior cricketers and also thinks that the other countries should also choose a role model like Dravid for the youth cricket.

“When it comes to youth cricket and systems, India, with Rahul Dravid, in effect, academy director, are the model to follow. I think that is the model that every county should look at,” further mentioned Key in his piece.
