Former English cricketers unhappy with David Warner's comments on the Ashes battle

Australian vice-captain and aggressive opener David Warner admitted that he sees the upcoming Ashes series as a “War” and will try to get on the battle with the opposition in every way. However, former English cricketers like Marcus Trescothick, Geoffrey Boycott and Michael Vaughan were not at all happy with Warner’s comments.

All the three Englishmen stated that there is no point in getting involved at these type of comments rather it is more important to perform on the cricket field.  They also pointed out that the Ashes has always created a big hype and the war of words is always there.

Trescothick admitted that David Warner’s comments are pathetic and there is no need to get too much involved in that. The Somerset Giant also said that the upcoming Ashes is a big challenge for the England team as they are quite perturbed with the controversy regarding their star player Ben Stokes.

“I don’t think they will get that involved. To come out with those sort of comments is not needed. There’s always the hype that comes around before the Ashes, so I don’t think it’s something the players will be drawn into. I think it will just be a good distraction, hopefully, for Australia and they can get caught up in the war of words. I think it’s pathetic,” said Trescothick as quoted by News18.

England perturbed with the Stokes’ incident

“We’re a little bit unsettled as a team, obviously with the (Ben) Stokes affair going on, and there are a few issues in the batting line-up which they need to get sorted. The combination of being that little bit not quite ready in what their team selection makes it quite tricky going into that environment because it’s quite harsh, it’s quite tough. As a country they (Australia) really go for you so I think we might find it quite tricky,” he added.

Cricket Pundit Geoffrey Boycott also was among the ones who condemned the David Warner comment and raised his point on the social media. “They want to get (England) down, abuse & sledging, a war, that’s what it is to them not cricket. It’s a test of character for our lads,” he wrote on his twitter handle.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan also shared his views regarding the war of words ahead of the important Ashes tour. “Better get some Tanks and Machine Guns ready then …. What nonsense !!!?” tweeted Vaughan.
