Former India left-arm seamer and currently the spearhead of the Gujarat bowling line-up Rudra Pratap Singh lost his cool during the 3rd day of the Ranji Trophy Final against Mumbai at Indore after being continuously booed by the fans. RP Singh who was bowling from the CK Nayudu Pavilion was about to deliver the 48th over of the innings when fans from the crowd yelled at him to take a wicket.
Just before bowling the last delivery of the over RP had a brief discussion with the mid-off fielder. Seeing this a fan from the crowd shouted: “Bate kam karo aur bowling dalo” (talk less and bowl). The fast bowler was furious to hear the comment and immediately showed his middle finger to the person concerned. Despite the incident not been picked up in television, mid-day spotted the unhealthy incident.
Following the completion of the over, the fast receded back to his allotted fielding position but not before making another awkward gesture towards the fan. Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel immediately replaced him with Chintan Gaja in the fielding position. Singh returned wicket-less after bowling 14 overs and conceding 37 runs.
This is not the first time that we have seen players losing their cool in the middle of a pitch. They should realise that cricket is, after all, a gentleman’s game and their reactions might tempt the young and budding cricketers to do the same thing. When the experienced fast bowler showed the finger he was facing both the dressing rooms, with Mumbai having a 17-year-old Prithvi Shaw in their ranks.

Not only Shaw, there were Madhya Pradesh’s U-19 cricketers present in the ground and enjoying the match. It was such a shameful incident from an experienced campaigner who has represented India in 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is. It was not appropriate on his part to behave in such a way in front of a bunch of young and budding cricketers.
