Hardik Pandya is evolving to be a very important member of team India. He is backed extensively by skipper Virat Kohli and it seemed as though India’s long wait for an all-rounder was quenched. His all-round ability helps add much better balance to the line-up. The Baroda boy is known for his big hitting abilities with the bat. He also fares decently well with the ball. Both MS Dhoni and Virat have used him as a triumph card in many of the recent achievements.

Hardik Pandya is often considered as India’s best all-rounder since the days of the legendary Kapil Dev. However, he has had a very dismal test series in South Africa barring the impressive innings he had played at the Newlands in Cape Town. Yet, his failure to perform with both bat and ball has seen him become the topic of criticism.

Hardik faces the heat from Kapil Dev

More than his below-par performances, it was the kind of mistakes that he committed that annoyed the Indian fans. Careless running put down curtains to his innings in the first innings. In the second innings, Pandya got out at a wrong time leaving the side behind in trouble. The bounce on the pitch wasn’t that great. Batsman earlier got out due to the variable bounce. Yet he seemed to have taken none of these factors into consideration while batting.

India’s legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev on Wednesday said Hardik Pandya does not deserve to be compared with him if he keeps making silly mistakes like he did in the second test. Talking about Pandya’s poor show, Kapil told ABP news that “If Pandya keeps making silly mistakes like these then he doesn’t deserve to be compared with me“. Kapil added that Pandya is highly talented and showed us his ability in the first innings. But, he felt that Pandya needed to work on his mental aspect.

Former Indian cricketer, Sandip Patil also opined that comparing the two isn’t ideal. He said “I have played a lot of cricket with Kapil, really there is no comparison. Kapil played 15 years for India with terrific performance and Pandya is only in his fifth Test match. There is a long way to go“. Hardik would be hoping to come good in the third test to be played in the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
