Former Indian cricketer BS Chandrasekhar admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru after suffering a minute stroke

Former Indian and Karnataka cricketer BS Chandrasekhar has suffered a mild stroke and is currently recovering from it at a hospital in Bengaluru. The ex-spinner has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in a privately run hospital in the capital of Karnataka, an official from the Karnataka State Cricket Association revealed. 

The 75-year-old had started complaining about fatigue and slurring in speech. Chandrasekhar was taken to the hospital after this happened on January 15. As per the reports that have come, the former cricketer’s health condition is stable for now and he will be discharged within the next two days.

Karnataka State Cricket Association spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya had confirmed during an interaction that Chandrasekhar’s condition was stable now. “Former cricketer BS Chandrasekhar admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru. He is in ICU and is stable,” he said. 

The wife of the former player, Sandhya Chandrasekhar had also interacted with a few media officials, where she assured everyone that there was nothing life-threatening that had happened to the great spinner. She reaffirmed that it was only some mild issues that they wanted to be sure weren’t anything serious. He has been admitted to Aster RV Hospital in Bengaluru.

“BS Chandrasekhar is admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru. He was fine and was watching the match when he suddenly complained of fatigue and slurring in speech. So we took him to the hospital. He is fine and will be back home in two days,” Sandhya Chandrasekhar, was quoted by ESPNCricinfo. “There is some kind of blockage in the brain. It’s a very, very minutest stroke. There is no problem. It’s not a life-threatening thing. Please convey to fans that Chandra is very much stable. He has a very strong willpower.”

The champion leg-spinner was a star back in the day. He made Test debut in 1964 for India against England. He went on to represent India for the next 15 years. Interestingly, his last Test match was also against England. He played 58 Tests, in which he took 242 wickets with an average of 29.74. He played just one ODI for India, against New Zealand in 1976, in which he took three wickets. He had played 246 first-class matches, in which he took 1063 wickets at an average of 24.
