The Chennai Super Kings almost got over the line when they locked horns against the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali recently. Riding on a herculean knock from their captain, MS Dhoni, the visitors took the game till the very last over on the day. CSK needed 17 to win off the final over and Dhoni almost had them over the target. Eventually, they fell short by just 4 runs despite a last ball six from the veteran cricketer.
Soon after the game concluded, the good wishes and kind words came in pouring for MS Dhoni. The fans, the cricket fraternity were in total awe of the unbeaten knock of 79 (44) that MSD played. It is worth noting that he batted in the innings with a sore back. Despite this, there was no stopping him as he kept going till the very end.
As per the recent quotes in Times of India, former Indian cricketers have hailed the fitness levels of MS Dhoni. Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar noted that Dhoni still has excellent fitness levels. He wished Dhoni all the luck for the future games.
“I have always believed that form and fitness are two important aspects of the game. As far as Dhoni is concerned, his fitness level is still excellent – as good as he was before. It was awesome the way he played. He came close to winning the game for CSK. He has played really well. I wish him luck,” Dilip Vengsarkar quoted.
Kapil Dev hails the CSK skipper
Meanwhile, former Indian captain Kapil Dev also spoke on the same lines. He cited that when it comes to fitness, Dhoni is in the top crop. Kapil Dev believes that more such knocks can come from the willow of MS Dhoni if he bats higher up in the batting order.
“He is very fit and in terms of overall ratings, he is one of the top players in terms of fitness. This IPL will give him strength to do bigger things as a player. He was fabulous the other night. Batting up the order is going to do a world of good to his batting. He will open his arms and shoulder at will. I am sure he is enjoying every moment of it,” Kapil Dev remarked.
