The Delhi and District Cricket Association has seen quite a few changes among the office bearers of the association in the last few days. Adding to that, former Indian pacer Parvinder Awana resigned from his position as the selector in the Jr. selection committee. The DDCA has accepted his resignation and also named his replacement on the panel.
They have now appointed another former cricketer in Chetan Sharma in his place. The men’s selection committee of the state made a recommendation that Awana be appointed the bowling coach and they’ve obliged. The 30-year-old who played 2 T20Is for India and retired earlier this year is thus set to take over as the bowling coach of the Delhi team.
DDCA in a press release, today announced that “Mr. Parvinder Awana has resigned as Selector, Jr. Selection Committee. His resignation has been accepted and, in his place, Mr. Chetan Sharma has been appointed as Selector, Jr. Selection Committee.
“On the recommendation of Men’s Selection Committee, Mr. Parvinder Awana has been appointed as Bowling Coach, Ranji Trophy,” the chief executive of the DDCA stated.
The resignations
Just yesterday on September 17 two prominent names from the DDCA cricket committee had put in their papers. The two former Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra resigned along with Rahul Sanghvi, all three of them used “busy schedule” as the reason for their decision.
”We had come together and given time and effort with the idea of contributing and helping in the improvement of Delhi cricket within the framework of our role as a cricket committee,” Sehwag had said.
”However, looking at the best interest of Delhi Cricket, we would like to inform you that all three of us would not be able to continue with the assignment of Cricket Committee of DDCA any further due to our busy schedule in day to day life,” he added.
