In another shocking news, Prashant Mohapatra is no more as he has died of Coronavirus. The former Odisha player breathed his last at about 7:51 am on 19th May 2021 at Bhubaneswar. The news was shared by AIMS superintendent Dr. S N Mohanty.

All possible efforts were taken by doctors and the safety measures were in place, but still, Mohapatra could not be saved and his dream of acting as a match referee remained unfulfilled. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recently appointed him as a referee after he had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Prashant Mohapatra’s brother also tested positive for COVID-19

The former opening batter from Odisha has played 45 first-class matches scoring 2,196 runs at an average of  30.08. He had represented East Zone in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. As per the reports by News 18,  ‘Munna’ as he was popularly known by friends and family was recovering well from the virus until his condition worsened and he had to be put on a ventilator.

Mohapatra’s brother, Jasobant too was detected with the virus and is now battling for his life at the same hospital where Prashant passed away. The family is going through a lot of crises as Prashant’s father too passed away of COVID-19 on May 9. His father was a Rajya Sabha MP and Padma Vibhusan awardee who had done good service to the state.

India is currently battling the second wave of the COVID-19 with a lot of people losing their lives or detecting positive for the virus. Recently Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy too lost her mother and sister due to the deadly virus. In other news, former India and Hyderabad cricketer Sravanthi Naidu’s parents are too hospitalized and are facing tough times.

Naidu has recently spent close to 16 lakhs rupees for the treatment and is in need of more funds for the treatment.
