Shahid Afridi is one of the greatest cricketers to have played for Pakistan. The all-rounder has represented the side in all three formats of the game. On his day, he snatched away the game from the opposition single-handedly. He has played over 523 matches across all formats and has piled tons of runs also taking lots of wickets through his leg-breaks.

Afridi has taken up several social issues on the internet and has voiced his opinions strongly. He recently talked about the injustice meted out to the local people in the valley of Kashmir. His comments did not go well in India as many people found it offensive. The retired allrounder has now come in support of Asifa Bano, the 8-year old girl who was raped and killed.

Several arrested

The girl went missing on January 10 when she went to bring the horses back home. Her family filed a complaint when Asifa didn’t return home after two days. After a few failed attempts, local civilians staged protests and forced police to assign two officers to search. One of those assigned, Deepak Khajuria, was found a guilty in connection with the crime. Several men including a retired Government official were arrested in connection with the case.

Afridi urged the authorities to punish the accused and put them behind the bars. He tweeted: “Whether 6yr old Zainab of Kasur or 8yr old Asifa of Jammu, these barbaric inhumane acts shud b condemned & those behind shud be punished to the max, let these cases be a lesson for the culprits where no daughter will ever be subjected to the heinous act #NeverAgain #JusticeforAsifa.”

Thousands of people have come together around the country in demand for justice. Such kinds of heinous acts is a crime and it must be stopped. Nobody should be allowed to get away with such acts and strict laws must be enacted to ensure strict punishments for the accused.
