Former Pakistani cricketers react to Misbah-ul-Haq's retirement decision

One of the most successful captains to take part in the field for Pakistan, Misbah-ul-Haq has announced that he will hang up his boot after the end of Test Series against West Indies on May 10th. One of the veterans for Pakistan Cricket, Misbah has taken part in 72 Tests, 162 ODIs and 39 T20I’s for his team, since his debut against Australia in 2001.

Though he played his 1st Test way back in 2001, he became a regular in the Pakistan squad in all the three formats of the game only after the T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa. Cumulatively, Misbah has scored almost 11,000 international runs, with 81 half centuries and 10 centuries.

However, the iconic moment for which Misbah will always be remembered for is the series of push-ups and salute, after a hard -fought triumphant series against England at the Home of Cricket. He dedicated the win to the Pakistani army. Misbah and his team trained with the army prior to the commencement of their tour to England.

Wasim Akram 

Wasim Akram believes the decision for retirement rests solely on the players and the entire nation should bid adieu to this legendary cricketer in the most glorious way. Quoting Akram, “A cricketer should have fitness and passion for playing and if now he thinks it is the right time for him to give up international cricket then it is good.The whole nation should say him goodbye in the best possible way.”

Adding to the comments, he professed that whosoever takes up captaincy after Misbah should be wholly supported. “We should all support the player whoever is given the responsibility of Test captaincy after Misbah” said Akram

Sikander Bakth

Former fast bowler from Pakistan hopes that the captain ends his career on a high note after scoring centuries in every innings of the test series. “I wish Misbah scores 100 in every match of the series against West Indies,” he remarked. Bakth also emphasized on the disciplinary aspect of his career.

According to Bhakt, Misbah has always been an exemplary leader who never had any disputes with the board or the players. “He has always been good with players and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).” quoting the Pakistani fast bowler.”

Muhammad Yousuf

Muhammad Yousuf also contributed by praising the Pakistani captain. He commented, “He has enormous achievements and deserves a good send-off”.
