Former Rajasthan Royals player Harmeet Singh detained by Mumbai Police
Former Rajasthan Royals player Harmeet Singh who also appeared for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy was detained by Mumbai police after apparently driving his luxury car straight into Andheri railway station platform on Monday. Reports suggest that the incident occurred early in the morning at around 7:15 am when the vehicle without giving an indication came speeding on Platform No.1 which was filled with passengers.
The passengers panicked and tried to escape the spot after which the cricketer controlled the vehicle and eventually halted it adjacent to the railway tracks. The police have detained Harmeet and will conduct an inquiry whether the young cricketer was intoxicated during the incident. No casualties have been reported.
“He is from Punjab. He lives in Malad. He seems new to Mumbai. As of now, it looks like he did it by mistake. We see no other reason behind it. He has been arrested,” a police official was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times after the incident.
Harmeet Singh was a part of the triumphant U-19 World Cup winning squad in 2012 and returned with impressive performances in the tournament. Besides that, he also represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 IPL season without featuring in the playing XI in a single match throughout the season. He has played 14 first-class matches bagging 46 wickets at an average of 34.
