Former South Africa international Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie passes away in a road accident
She played for South Africa in three ODIs and one T20I.
Former South Africa woman cricketer Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie passed away in a car accident in Stilfontein, North West on Friday. She was only 25 years old and also lost her child in an unfortunate incident. The Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the news on their official website and termed it as a dreadful tragedy while expressing it as a shock for everyone.
Elriesa, the medium pacer, played for her country in three One-Day Internationals and a solitary T20I in 2013. She was the part of the World Cup squad in the same year and had made her debut in the 50-overs format in the same tournament against Pakistan in Cuttack. She last represented South Africa is September 2013 and remained active in the domestic circuit until the end of 2016.
She also featured in Emerging Player tournaments before going on maternity leave. Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie also worked as a coach in community cricket and tried to contribute to the game at a very young age.

CSA Cheif Executive Thabang Moroe expressed his shock over the incident and also offered his deepest condolences to her family and friends. He was all praise of Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie’s work towards the sport and thanked her for the same.
“This is a dreadful tragedy in the true sense of that word. This is devastating news for all of us. Elriesa did so much for the community in which she lived and gave excellent service both as a national player of note and in the work she did at grassroots level to help in the less fortunate communities.
“On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest sympathy to her husband, Rudy, her family, friends and all her cricketing colleagues,” Thabang said according to the CSA’s official website.
