From selling paani-puri to smashing a ton against Pakistan: Virender Sehwag lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal's journey

India stormed into the final of U19 World Cup 2020 by decimating Pakistan in the semi-final by 10 wickets. The Boys in Blue were dominant in the run chase after restricting Pakistan to a total of 172 runs. It was a commendable effort by Indian bowling force comprising Kartik Tyagi, Sushant Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi– who never allowed the arch-rivals’ batsmen to settle in the middle.
The Tyagi-Mishra duo picked up five wickets between them and Bishnoi scalped two to thump the opposition batsmen. Apart from Rohail Nazir (62) and Haider Ali (56), no other Pakistan batsman was able to stitch partnerships to sail the Boys in Green’s ship to the 200-run mark.
Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as the talisman for the Indian colts as he smashed a brilliant ton to guide India to the victory. It was a cakewalk for the both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyanshi Saxena as they steered their side to the triumph without even losing a single wicket and with more than 14 overs to spare.

Post Jaiswal’s heroics against Pakistan, former India opener took it to Twitter to highlight the struggles of the 18-year-old. Sehwag shared two photos depicting the journey of young Jaiswal so far– from selling paani-puris on streets to grabbing the headlines with his sublime ton against Pakistan.
Sehwag captioned the post as ‘Mehnat.com’ The U19 World Cup always has been fruitful to India in terms of giving superstars to the senior side. From Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif to Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja— many players have made it big after dazzling in the marquee event.
It has not been an easy journey for Jaiswal to make it big on the international scene. From selling paani-puri on the streets to single-handedly steering India to the final of U19 World Cup– it has been quite a journey full of determination, self-belief and relentless struggle for the young colt.
Jaiswal is currently the leading run-scorer in the U19 World Cup with 312 runs under his belt and is anticipated to deliver many such performances in the upcoming phase of his career.
