Karnataka lad Karun Nair who scripted history just a month and a half back by converting his maiden Test century into a triple century against England is geared up for the Bangladesh challenge starting on 9th February. The one-off Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad will be the first time when Bangladesh will play a Test match in India ever since their maiden Test against the same oppositions way back in 2000.
Despite his stupendous performance, Karun’s place in the Playing XI remains doubtful as Ajinkya Rahane will be the preferred batsman as he is fit and raring to go. Despite Rahane’s indifferent form in the 3 Tests against England, he has been a proven material for the Men in Blue in the longest format and it is highly unlikely that Rahane will be asked to sit out. Karun Nair might become the first cricketer in the history to be dropped after scoring a triple century.
Speaking on this scenario, Karun Nair said that he wasn’t thinking about it and his main aim will be to perform for the national team whenever he gets a chance. I am not thinking about it. Anything could happen. Whenever I get opportunity I should be ready,” Nair was quoted as saying by India Today. After his triple century, Karun had a string of poor scores in the two first-class matches he played in.
“It’s a game and I have to enjoy it. Not always can you score big. I am looking to learn every game and try to put the best foot forward for the next one. The results will take care.” Despite his string of low scores, Karun sounded confident and shrugged off the possibility of any complacency which might have crept in after that historic innings.

“Not at all. Every player has his own expectations and every player wants to do well in all the games. Those expectations are the most important. To me outside expectations don’t matter. I have my own standards I have set and am working hard to live up to them,” he insisted
Karun was very happy with the fact that India became the No. 1 team as soon as he joined the squad. “It’s great for me. I have been very lucky as soon as I joined the team we became no.1. When I joined the Ranji team we became Ranji Champions for two years in a row,” he added.
It remains to be seen whether Karun gets an opportunity against Bangladesh but he conceded that irrespective of his inclusion India will be raring to go in their remaining 5 Tests of the long home season where they have been unbeaten.
“We are the No. 1 team. A lot of the players have been committed to white ball cricket. But the team will be switched on come time for Bangladesh and Australia,” he concluded.
