Child actress Zaira Wasim who made a name for herself after her brilliant performance in the Bollywood film Dangal found herself at the centre of controversy after she apologised to the public for “offending and “unintentionally hurting” people after her meeting with Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti created quite a stir. She took to her Facebook account and rendered the apology which evoked a lot of reactions. Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir supported Zaira and said it was just sexual bias.

The Kolkata Knight Riders captain wrote, “To me whole, Zaira Wasim episode smells of sexual bias. Can someone say the same thing to Aamir Khan, Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan? Men will be men. Insecure to see a girl like Zaira Wasim get wings. Sadly we still think “Maahri Choriyan AAJ B Choron se kum hain.” Earlier in the week, Zaira rendered the apology for apparently meeting the chief minister which caused an uproar from the youth because of the prevailing situation in the state for the last few months.

She also derogated her performance in Dangal claiming that she was “not proud of” what she is doing. Wrestler Geeta Phogat came out in her support and said she need not apologise or worry about anything as she hasn’t done anything wrong.

“I just want to say that Zaira shouldn’t apologise. She didn’t do anything wrong. Just like we have made our country proud by winning medals, she has done the same thing by playing my younger version in the movie. She did a lot of hard work for that role and she played it really well. I’ve met her so many times during the shoot, she is a very simple girl… I want to say to her family that don’t be afraid of anything and just don’t worry. We all are with them. The entire country stands with them. She is equally deserving like us and we all respect her from the bottom of our hearts,” Geeta said.

Aamir Khan who played the role of Geeta and Babita’s father Mahavir Singh Phogat in the film Dangal also came out in support of the child actor and appealed to the mass to leave her alone as she is just a 16 years old and trying her best to deal with her life.
