Gautam Gambhir knew that MS Dhoni would make it big
Former Indian left-hander, Hemang Badani detailed his interaction with Gambhir when he was talking about Dhoni.
Coming from a small town, MS Dhoni didn’t have any idea that he would become India’s most successful captain. It is a journey from rags to riches, the one where an individual beats all odds to become a champion. Dhoni had to struggle his way through the cricketing ranks but once he was in the Indian team he never looked back and is scaling new heights ever since.
From being a ticket collector to lifting the World T20 Trophy in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup glory in 2011, it has been an inspiring ride for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has seen a lot of challenges and hardships in his life. He was once not considered for the team because of his long hair and once he arrived at the grand stage and made a mark for himself millions of fans loved his long hair.
Dhoni was always special
Though his road was full of hurdles MS never lost his hope and kept giving his best on the field. He was first selected in the India A team in Nairobi and then the world came to know about his big-hitting ability. After a successful A tour, he made his debut against Bangladesh in 2004 but was run out for a duck in that game. After a string of low scores in the first few games, Dhoni came back hard and scored 148 runs off just 123 balls, which is still a memorable knock.
The Jharkhand boy never looked back and became the best finisher in the history of the game. Former Indian left-hander, Hemang Badani in his article for a sports website wrote: “once Gautam Gambhir said that Dhoni would go places and nothing went wrong with this saying.”
Apart from being a prolific batsman, MS Dhoni is also the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket. He has in his kitty all the prestigious ICC Trophies the World T20, the 50-over World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
