Gautam Gambhir picks Shane Warne as the cricketer he loved to sledge
"I never played against him in an international game but yes, during the IPL, I sledged him a lot," said Gautam Gambhir.
Veteran Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir is renowned to carry his heart on his sleeve. He is one of those cricketers who is never short on words – be it on the field or off the field. Gambhir’s sledging is quite famous among the cricketing fan-verse. From Virat Kohli to Shahid Afridi – Gambhir has had a rough time on the field with many.
Recently, as per the quotes in Sportswallah, the southpaw was asked to pick the player he loved to sledge to the most. Surprisingly, the Delhi batsman took the name of former Australian cricketer Shane Warne. Albeit he has not played international game against him, the two faced off in the IPL. He recalled an incident wherein Sourav Ganguly and Warne had a heated exchange during the IPL. Taking that reference, he sledged Warne when he was up against him in another match that season.
“I enjoyed sledging Shane Warne the most. I never played against him in an international game but yes, during the IPL, I sledged him a lot,” said Gautam Gambhir.
Recalling the Ganguly-Warne incident
He recalled an incident wherein Sourav Ganguly and Warne had a heated exchange during the IPL. It was during the earlier editions of the premier tournament when Sourav Ganguly had questioned a catch claimed by a Rajasthan Royals fielder at the boundary ropes. Miffed with the questioning, Shane Warne had barged into Sourav. The two players were then seen having a heated exchange of words on the field.
Taking that reference, Gambhir recalled that he had later sledged Warne when he was up against him in another match during that season.
“I still remember telling him that the next time he should send the text to the right person,” Gambhir recalled his words.
