The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir was all praise for his Delhi team-mate and the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli at a recent promotional event in Mumbai.
Players of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir, Andre Russell and Brad Hogg, attended the Sansui promotional event at Mumbai. While Gambhir talked about the secrets to Kohli’s success, Russell spoke on the recent controversies surrounding the Caribbean players.
Gambhir admitted that Kohli is going through a tremendous batting form and every cricketer should try and replicate his efforts on the field. When asked about what the secret is behind Kohli’s success, the KKR skipper said it is the confidence that counts.
“Confidence is very important. I think sometimes you want to keep doing the same things to prolong your form and he has been doing that really well,” he said. Gauti further stressed that consistency is very important in cricket and it should be across all formats.

“Obviously, consistency is very important in all forms of the game and he has shown how consistent he is and that is what you strive for, that is what you wish for in international cricket, that you can continue that form for as long as possible. He has been doing that and hopefully he can continue in the same vein,” added the left-hander.
Gambhir also emphasized the point that T20s should not be made the basis for selection for the ODIs and Tests. He said that first-class cricket should remain the grounds for selection. “It has to be through your first-class cricket. You got to give more importance to your first-class cricket because that is how you are going to get the depth of talent into the bigger league,” he said. “T20 cricket is something where you might not be tested mentally or technically. It can be a lot more physical in T20s,” added the Kolkata Knight Riders captain.
His team-mate Andre Russell described the behavior of Marlon Samuels at the press meet after the World Cup finals as ‘not good’. Talking about Samuels, Russell said, “A lot of people ask me if he is from Jamaica. Yeah, he is Jamaican, but he is a different Jamaican. He is a confident fellow. He played a tremendous innings in Sri Lanka in 2012 and he has done it again.”
“I heard that when he went into the media conference he put his feet up. And I don’t know how to explain that, but it wasn’t good,” Russell added further.
