A few days ago, Delhi batsman Gautam Gambhir hung his boots from all forms of cricket. After making his first-class debut way back in 1999, the southpaw’s career spanned approximately a couple of decades. He didn’t don the national colours ever since the 2016 Rajkot Test against England, but that didn’t affect his fan-following by any stretch of the imagination.

The 37-year-old recently played his final competitive match in the Ranji Trophy. The left-hander played against Andhra and bowed out with a superlative century at Feroz Shah Kotla, where he grew up playing all his cricket. He was also instrumental in two of India’s World titles- the T20 World Cup in South Africa and the 2011 World Cup where he churned out a couple of useful knocks.

Apart from his international career, he also flourished in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After his retirement, wishes poured in for the veteran. Mohammad Kaif, who called it quits earlier this year, also heaped praises on Gambhir for his contributions to the game of cricket. Gambhir and Kaif together took part in 15 ODIs and a couple of Tests.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “It’s been a great journey. Some memorable moments which the country lived with you, you can be very proud of how you played the game, will always remain Unbeaten @GautamGambhir ! #ThankYouGautamGambhir,”

Kaif posted the tweet on December 4, the day of Gambhir’s retirement. However, Gambhir took time in replying to him. After 11 days, he reverted and mentioned that he wanted to have Kaif’s stupendous fielding abilities and also his prowess to set the dance floor on fire.

Gambhir replied and wrote, “Thanks brother. Wish I had your moves on the field…and on the dance floor too!!! Look forward to meeting you soon @BCCI @BCCIdomestic #unbeaten #gautamgambhir #gautamgambhirretires,”
