Chris Gayle has been in jaw-dropping form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He wasn’t retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and went unsold as many as twice before being picked by Preity Zinta’s franchise at his base price. The Jamaican hasn’t let his team down and has already played a couple of match-winning knocks.
He was left out for the opening games after which he was drafted in place of David Miller in Punjab’s contest against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mohali. Subsequently, Gayle took them to a bludgeoning start and notched a half-century. In the next game, he emerged as the first century-maker in this season’s IPL when he accomplished the feat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Chris Gayle- RCBs ‘coveted’ 12th man
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir, who is currently captaining the Delhi Daredevils, talked about the potential strength of the RCB lineup had they retained Gayle. Moreover, he also praised the Windies cricketer for the stupendous knocks in a column for the Times of India
“RCB will be banking on Virat and AB de Villiers. I was wondering what if they still had Chris Gayle in the ranks. The Universe Boss owned the IPL on Thursday night like only he does. In this kind of mood, we are not missing him. Maybe the RCB team and their coveted 12th man is,” he mentioned.
He also wrote about the tactics of the Delhi Daredevils and the nature of the wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. “We are trying to get our bowling combinations right for the small ground here although the wicket may not be as batting friendly as it used to be,” the left-handed batsman added.
