Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Nadeem has been one of those impressive persons who has been instrumental in his side reaching the Ranji Trophy finals for the 2016-17 edition. However, while taking 50 wickets remains to be a feat in itself, doing it for the second time is an unthinkable ordeal, meaning that Nadeem has seemingly done the unthinkable.
With figures of 7/79 and 4/78 in each inning of the quarter-final against Haryana, the southpaw has set his sights on the Indian cricket team, a side that he hopes to break into when the time does come. In recent times, the fitness of certain players has been in question given the fact that many are getting injured in recent times.
“I do get frustrated, I am human too,” Nadeem says. “But when you are doing well on the domestic circuit, the bowlers in the Indian team are also bowling very well. Luck is a big factor and the timing of your performance should be right.”
Nadeem also went on to add that he definitely needed to work harder on his game. “Generally when I am disappointed, I play more matches. If I am not capable enough [to get in] I should work more. I practice slightly less, but I will play even 20 matches in a month. I play throughout the year.”
Nadeem also went on to add that performances are perhaps the best way to get more media coverage for an aspiring cricketer like him. “When you play from a metro city, the media does cover you more,” he says. “But more than the media, if you perform well, you deserve a chance.”
The 27-year old concluded by saying, “The peak of a player doesn’t last forever but I have time. I am still 27 and if I play the same way for one or two more seasons, you never know. This is my motivation. If the door doesn’t open, I will break it open. I am right now knocking. Next time I will break it.”
