Rishabh Pant’s knock on the first day of the rescheduled fifth Test against England got the whole cricketing industry talking. But what got social media talking was former English skipper Michael Vaughan’s tweet on Rishabh Pant  after the wicketkeeper-batter anchored India’s innings and handled the situation under grave pressure.

Although the tweet was not even remotely critical of Pant, Vaughan’s choice of words infuriated the Twitter users. Vaughan placed himself under scrutiny on Friday night by comparing his performance to that of Jonny Bairstow as Pant was relentlessly tormenting the English bowlers. “This is great viewing .. @RishabhPant17 doing a Jonny B … #ENGvIND,” Vaughan’s tweet read.

As soon as he tweeted this, the Indian fans took a troll on him and bashed him for drawing out baseless comparisons between the two batters. While one user said “Better description would be-Jonny B played like Rishabh last week. “Rishabh was doing Bazball way before Bazball was even a thing”, another user commented. “Pant is doing it since 2018 whereas Jonny from the last series. I know you are biased, but at least get your facts right :).” wrote another.

The netizens reminded him of how Pant breached different fortresses with his magnificent centuries, and how Jonny Bairstow has begun to put up a game similar to Pant just recently as another user said: “Jonny doing this only from the last series and pant is doing this from his first test match so Jonny copying pant’s style.”

India in command of the game after Pant and Jadeja’s heroics

Pant’s 146 (111) and his 222-run partnership with senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja helped India to end the first day on a high note as India stood at 338/7 at stumps. With Jadeja remaining unbeaten at the end of the day’s play and getting close to a century, he would eye to add those crucial runs without losing his wicket on the second day.
