The Australian team that is touring India right now has quite a few Indians in close connection – be it related to the game or administrative part. Former Indian cricketer S Sriram is the side’s spin consultant for some time and domestic spinners like Pardeep Sahu and KK Jiyas have also roped in by the Kangaroos to help them prepare on subcontinent wickets. Now, the name of Girish Dongre has also come up. The man from Hyderabad, currently on his sixth assignment as the liaison officer with different teams from Down Under, has grown closer with the Aussies of late.
A number of Australians have praised Dongre
The Aussies have expressed high regard for Dongre, who they say is hardworking, organised and selfless who never says no to the countless number of jobs he does in a day. Australian manager Gavin Dovey, for instance, said that Dongre is held in high regard in both domestic and international cricket fraternities and has a lot of close friends in Australian cricket.
“Our relationship extends far beyond that due to those common bonds with past Australian players and officials,” Dovey was quoted as saying by Sportstar about Dongre, also a former coach of the Hyderabad Under-19 cricket team.
“We have the upmost respect, love and admiration for Girish. This may seem strong but I say that with great sincerity. His experience, skills, character, work ethic and relationships through cricket in India are things we appreciate enormously and benefit from incredibly,” he added, saying the Australian team banks on him while touring India.
Dongre also received praise from Australian team security manager Franck Demasi who felt he is an outstanding liaison officer who knows how to get things done professionally and punctually. Australian coach Graeme Hick, a former England cricketer, also lauded Dongre for his positive individuality. He thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for giving him the opportunity to be with Australian sides.
Australia are touring India for a two-game T20I and five-match ODI series. While they won the T20I series 2-0, the two sides played their first ODI on Saturday.
