Glamorgan pen down a deal with Stephen Cook for the remainder of the season
Prior to Cook'a arrival as the overseas batsman, Usman Khawaja played a few games for Glamorgan
Former Proteas top-order batsman Stephen Cook will be seen donning the Glamorgan jersey for the remainder of the 2018 season after penning a new deal with the English county side. Cook, who joins as an overseas player will deputise for the injured Shaun Marsh and will be available for Glamorgan’s final four County Championship matches, starting with their away match against Derbyshire on Tuesday
The 35-year-old South African, with his umpteen experience at both international and domestic level, will bring in a lot of confidence into the squad. Having played 11 Test matches for the Proteas, Cook has amassed over 14 000 first-class runs during his career at an average over 40 with the highest score of 390 and has 44 centuries and 57 fifties to his name.
Unveiling their new signing, a statement on Glamorgan’s official Twitter handle read, “COOK// New overseas signing Stephen Cook will be available for our final @CountyChamp matches of the season, starting with our away match against @DerbyshireCCC on Tuesday #GoGlam”

Cook upbeat to join Glamorgan
Before turning up for Glamorgan, the former Proteas opener played half of the 2017 season for Durham, hitting 348 runs at an average of 26 while scoring 274 runs at an average of 45 in the one-day competition. Upbeat with the deal, the South African was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “I’m excited to join Glamorgan for the rest of the season and hopefully can help them finish the season on a positive note.”
The Highveld Lions batsman added, “Glamorgan has some very talented young batsmen at the club and I look forward to joining them and offering any help I can.”
Prior to Cook’a arrival as the overseas batsman, Usman Khawaja played a few games for Glamorgan, getting starts in the ongoing T20 Blast without a fifty. In the Championship though, their rather inexperienced top order has seen them collapse to heavy innings defeats against Durham and Warwickshire.
