Glenn Maxwell and Nic Maddinson make their return after taking a break from mental health issues
Glenn Maxwell and Nic Maddinson played in Victorian Premier Cricket.
Glenn Maxwell and Nic Maddinson had recently taken an indefinite break from the game due to mental health issues. Even Cricket Australia (CA) also backed them for their decision in order to recover from the illness they were suffering for long. However, both the cricketers have returned to the game and played for their respective clubs in Victorian Premier Cricket.
The right-handed all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had announced his break from the game on October 31 because of which he didn’t feature in the Pakistan T20I series. Later on, Maddinson also opted himself out from Australia A. And, now their fans would be delighted with the fact that their top players are back into the business.
Maxwell played for Fitzroy Doncaster and scored five unbeaten runs and also took two important wickets whereas Maddinson amassed 58 runs that helped St. Kilda in defeating Casey-South Melbourne.
Cricket Australia design a model to encounter players’ mental health issues
Now, Cricket Australia has come up with a new plan to encounter the issues with which players are currently struggling. They have provided domestic players with eight hours a week to serve and work for the professional development of the community. As per CA research, it will enhance their conditions mentally and spiritually.
“Having eight hours every week for every domestic player, male or female, to work on their professional development or contribute to the community. We know from research that doing either of those things enhances wellbeing,” Kevin Roberts, the CEO of Cricket Australia said as quoted by The Weekend Australian.
In a recent development, they will also be working alongside states and territories to make sure that the players are contributing to their communities before making it into the national side. Also, if they are involved in other life aspects or not.
“We’ll be working with states and territories to make sure when we have payers merge into national teams, they’re more well-rounded and they’re contributing to their communities and getting involved in other aspects of life,” he added.
Recently, Will Puckovsci, the domestic Aussie cricketer also looked vocal about his mental health from which he has been suffering since long and had taken off from the game.
