Glenn Maxwell becomes the No. 1 ranked T20I all-rounder

Following the conclusion of the Sri Lanka vs Australia 2-T20I series the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest T20I Rankings for teams and players. In the team’s rankings Australia having won the series 2-0 has gained one place and is at No. 5 now. Ahead of the start of the series, the Men in Yellow had 110 rating points, with two wins they earned 4 points and now have 114 in their account. With that the Aussies went past the England team that dropped down to 113 from 116 having lost the one-off T20I to Pakistan.

As far as the players rankings is concerned the new found Australian opener Glenn Maxwell scaled new highs as he rose all the way to the top of the T20I all-rounders’ list. That’s not all Maxwell has also achieved the career-best position in the T20I Batsmen rankings as he is proudly placed at No. 3 now.

He was promoted to the top of the order for the series and Maxwell made most of it playing two match winning knocks in as many matches which included the unbeaten 145 in the first game, which is the second highest T20I individual score. He scored 66 in the second game and made sure Australia were well on course of a clean sweep in the series. To reach the top he took over Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh.

As far as the batsmen’s ranking is concerned Maxwell earned 16 places to leapfrog to the 3rd spot behind Aaron Finch of Australia and India’s star batsman Virat Kohli. While he is still a long way short of Kohli 820 points but with 763 points to his name is, just eight short of teammate Finch.

Though Sri Lanka lost the series, on the back of their individual show stand-in captain Dinesh Chandimal and Chamara Kapugedera moved up to the 60th and 72nd rank respectively in the batsmen’s ranking. Tillakaratne Dilshan who called it a day on his international career with the second T20I of the series was positioned 19th.

The England vs Pakistan T20 didn’t just affect the team rankings but also helped Sharjeel Khan who scored 59 runs in the game has gain 28 places and move to 37th spot whereas teammate Khalid Latif who also played a knock of 59 runs and remained unbeaten has moved 61 places northwards to 120th place.

In the T20I Bowlers ranking, Australia’s shortest format specialist James Faulkner earned himself a career-best ranking position at No. 5. Faulkner has 672 points to his credit. He was the standout bowler in the game with four wickets to his name. The Aussie pacer bowling spearhead Mitchell Starc returned with four wickets from the two games and with that has made his way back into the top 20 bowlers placed at the 20th spot.

Other bowlers who gained places in the latest rankings are Pakistani left-arm spinner Imad Wasim and pacer Wahab Riaz having scalped two and three successes in the match are now at the 37th and 45th rank respectively.
