Glenn Maxwell can't stop his praises on this match-winner after Delhi Daredevil pull off a heist
An overwhelmed Australian Maxwell tweeted out his praises for his team-mate on his match-winning knock against Mumbai Indians
Delhi Daredevils got off to the poorest of starts in the Indian Premier League after losses in both their games. A similar fate was in for the Mumbai Indians, who also had experienced two losses from their two games.
Winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir elected to bowl first on a flat-batting track at the Wankhede stadium. For the visitors, the English batsman Jason Roy replaced the Kiwi opener Colin Munro, while Glenn Maxwell retained his place in the playing XI after missing out on the opener.
What Gambhir did not expect, is an onslaught from the Mumbai openers, Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav. The duo put on a century run stand for the opening wicket after just the 9th over of the innings. The total always seemed to be climbing for the Delhi side. However, good death-bowling ensured that they contained the home side to under 200 runs in the 20 overs.
Jason Roy to the rescue:
A pumped-up Jason Roy took on the field, alongside skipper Gautam Gambhir. While Roy picked the ball and hit it cleanly, Gambhir on the other end struggled to get it off the middle of the bat. Mustafizur Rahman put an end to Gambhir’s misery in the middle of the pitch.
Rishab Pant, walked in to bat with Delhi Daredevils struggling to get accustomed to the total set by Mumbai Indians. However, what the Mumbai bowlers did not know is that this partnership would turn the game around its head for the away side.
While Roy continued to time the ball off the middle of the bat, Pant found it easy to score on both the sides of the pitch. An even partnership between the duo looked to take the Daredevils to a well-deserved victory. However, no victory comes that easily for a side, as Pant holed out to the deep fielder.
Glenn Maxwell heaps praise on Jason Roy:
Glenn Maxwell caved in after knocking two deliveries for a boundary and a six. With Shreyas Iyer on the other end, Jason Roy played till the end of the innings to take the away side to one of the most memorable victories in the tournament.
An overwhelmed Australian Maxwell tweeted out his praises for his team-mate “How good was @JasonRoy20 tonight?!? Not a bad way to start your @DelhiDaredevils career! Great to be on the board in this IPL. #bushes #emerging #hereheis”
