Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had been charged with a breach of conduct in the ongoing BBL 07 by Cricket Australia (CA). Maxwell, who was playing for the Melbourne Stars franchise was charged with breaching the CA Code of Conduct on 12 January 2018 in his side’s KFC Big Bash League match against Melbourne Renegades at Etihad Stadium.

The 29-year-old was reported for breaching CA Code of Conduct Article 2.1.3 – showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match – a Level 1 offence. The offence occurred during the Stars’ batting innings.

According to the CA Code of Conduct procedure, Match Referee Daryl Harper considered the umpires’ report and proposed a sanction of a $2,500 fine should the player accept the umpire’s version of events.

Maxwell, however, did not show any dissidence and admitted the offence. No hearing was hence required as Maxwell had accepted the sanction.

Match Details

Maxwell put up a scintillating performance gripping four catches in another reminder that he is a complete package despite his place in Australian cricket continuing to loosen. He also performed equally well with the bat. After being dropped by Mohammad Nabi on seven runs, the master blaster finished his innings unbeaten 31.

But it breathed fresh life into a Stars franchise that was growing a stench. Friday night’s victory signalled the changing of the guard

Stars coach Stephen Fleming declared his side needed a trigger to light their season and Pietersen provided that the bat. Pietersen cranked his 1000th BBL run, only the second Stars’ to reach the milestone, behind compatriot Luke Wright – and was dismissed for 74, two runs shy of his highest score in green. The retiring Pietersen sent three of his seven Hogg balls into the crowd and also struck Jack Wildermuth for consecutive boundaries. It was magical stroke play as Pietersen used his long leavers to demolish the Renegades attack in his last Melbourne derby.

The 23-run loss could now see the Renegades drop out of the semi-finals as the race for the top-four heats up.
