Glenn Maxwell feels he has the technique and temperament to survive in Test cricket
"I just hope I can make enough runs."
Australia, going through one of it’s testing periods in cricket, need all the arsenal in their store to arrest their slide. With a crushing Test series loss against India and more red-ball cricket to be played against Sri Lanka, the hosts have gone for a revamp of the squad. Swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has been ignored in whites for Australia since 2017 is confident of having the temperament and technique to play Tests.
The 30-year old last played a Test against Bangladesh in the year 2017 and reportedly relinquished an IPL contract in a bid to make it to the Test team. The Victorian though has performed reasonably good in Test cricket. his perseverance has been highly doubted, considering he goes for the big shots from the word go.
However, in the recent times, Maxwell has taken a leap to make a comeback to the longest format of the game by joining the English county cricket club Lancashire which will give him a first-class match and six one-day matches to press his case for 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. The schedule before the World Cup also includes a Brisbane training camp in May.
The chief selector Trevor Hohns hailed Maxwell’s move to make himself unavailable for the lucrative T20 league in India and instead concentrate on first-class matches to earn a berth in the Ashes, scheduled to be contested on English soil in August and September.
Maxwell believes he is doing everything he can
The 30-year old felt that he is doing everything he can in his power to make himself ready and fit to play Tests. He also said that as long as he is getting to play white ball cricket, it will also enable him to press his case for the Tests.
“As Trevor Hohns stated, in that white ball World Cup, I just hope I can make enough runs, I can make enough runs wherever I’m batting and it’s good enough to show that I have the technique and the temperament to play Test cricket,” Maxwell said as quoted by cricket.com.au
“Because I feel like I’m doing everything I can and I’m making all the right moves off the field by getting red-ball cricket elsewhere by showing I’m 100% serious,” he stated further.
